The highest point in the county, about {{convert|1060|ft}} above sea level, is on the primary divide between the [[Chariton River]] and [[Grand River (Missouri)|Grand River]] [[drainage basin]]s along its northern border shared with [[Putnam County, Missouri|Putnam County]] northwest of Green City.
