===Pre-Imperial China=== In the [[Spring and Autumn period]] ({{circa|770|481 BC}}), the [[Jin (Chinese state)|state of Jin]] was located in what is now Shanxi. It underwent a three-way split into the states of [[state of Han|Han]], [[state of Zhao|Zhao]], and [[state of Wei|Wei]] in 403 BC, a traditional date sometimes taken as the start of the [[Warring States period]] ({{circa|473}}{{snd}}221 BC). By 221 BC, all of these states had fallen to the [[state of Qin]], which established the [[Qin dynasty]] (221β206 BC).<ref>γζεε²ηΆ±θ¦γ第163ι (Jin State Compendium, page 163)</ref>
