==Prelude== The war followed on from the [[First Opium War]]. In 1842, the [[Treaty of Nanking]] granted an [[indemnity]] and [[extraterritoriality]] to Britain, the opening of five [[treaty ports]], and the cession of [[Hong Kong Island]].
