==Geography== [[File:Beach @ Saltaire, Fire Island.jpg|thumb|left|Saltaire Beach]] According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the village has an area of {{convert|0.7|km2|disp=flip}}, of which {{convert|0.6|km2|disp=flip}} is land and {{convert|0.1|km2|disp=flip|2}}, or 18.04%, is water.<ref name="Census 2010" /> Among other things, Saltaire is known for its great softball league in the summer. The village encompasses the widest portion of Fire Island, at approximately {{convert|0.5|mi}}. Saltaire can be reached by the Fire Island Ferries, by private boat, by walking, or by car. Saltaire is the second-largest [[Fire Island]] community, and is on the widest part of the island.
