Salem is located about {{convert|18|mi|km}} southwest of [[Youngstown, Ohio|Youngstown]], {{convert|28|mi|km}} east of [[Canton, Ohio|Canton]], and {{convert|60|mi|km}} southeast of [[Cleveland]]. The city is mostly surrounded by unincorporated [[Perry Township, Columbiana County, Ohio|Perry Township]].
