New Plymouth has an [[oceanic climate]] that could be described as a moist, temperate climate. The average summer afternoon temperature is {{convert|21|-|22|C|F}}; the average summer night-time temperature is {{convert|12|-|13|C|F}}. The city experiences mild winters, where the average afternoon temperature is {{convert|13|-|14|C|F}} and night-time temperature is {{convert|5|-|6|C|F}}. The average annual rainfall is {{convert|1432|mm|in|abbr=on}}.
