===Etymology===
The name of the country is derived from the [[Namib]] desert, the oldest desert in the world.<ref name=at1315>Spriggs, A. (2001) {{WWF ecoregion|name=Africa: Namibia|id=at1315}}</ref> The word ''Namib'' itself is of [[Khoikhoi language|Khoi]] origin and means "vast place".
