===Etymology===
The naming of Monmouth County has different historical theories. Another plausible theory, is from a suggestion from [[Colonel]] [[Lewis Morris (governor)|Lewis Morris]] that the county should be named after [[Monmouthshire (historic)|Monmouthshire]] in [[Wales]], [[Great Britain]].
