==Geography==
Mercersburg is located in southwestern Franklin County and has a total area of {{convert|2.3|km2|order=flip}}, all land.<ref name="Census 2010"/>

Mercersburg is located at the eastern foot of [[Cove Mountain, Pennsylvania|Cove Mountain]] on the west side of the [[Great Appalachian Valley]]. The borough is {{convert|7.5|mi}} north of the [[Mason–Dixon line]], which serves as the state border with [[Maryland]]. [[Whitetail Ski Resort]] and golf course are located {{convert|7|mi|0}} south of the town.

Pennsylvania state highways [[Pennsylvania Route 16|16]], [[Pennsylvania Route 75|75]], and [[Pennsylvania Route 416|416]] all pass through Mercersburg. PA 16 leads east {{convert|10|mi|0}} to [[Greencastle, Pennsylvania|Greencastle]] and {{convert|11|mi}} to [[Interstate 81]], and northwest through [[Cove Gap, Pennsylvania|Cove Gap]] and over [[Tuscarora Mountain]] 10 miles to [[McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania|McConnellsburg]]. PA 75 leads north {{convert|6|mi|0}} to [[Fort Loudon, Franklin County, Pennsylvania|Fort Loudon]] and south {{convert|7.5|mi}} to the Maryland border. PA 416 leads northeast {{convert|7|mi|0}} to [[U.S. Route 30 in Pennsylvania|U.S. Route 30]] near [[St. Thomas Township, Pennsylvania|St. Thomas]] and southeast {{convert|10|mi|0}} to the Maryland border. [[Hagerstown, Maryland]], is {{convert|17|mi}} to the southeast via PA 416 and [[Maryland Route 58]], while [[Chambersburg, Pennsylvania|Chambersburg]], the Franklin County seat, is {{convert|16|mi}} to the northeast via PA 416 and US 30.
