==Musical career== [[File:Macy gray.jpg|thumb|upright|Gray in 1995]] While attending the [[University of Southern California]], she agreed to write songs for a friend.<ref name=":1"/> A demo session was scheduled for the songs to be recorded by another singer, but the vocalist failed to appear, so Gray recorded them herself. {{blockquote|I started forming bands and writing songs just for fun and then I really got into it and got attached to it.
