In a year-long hunt, with the kidnappers committing a further series of crimes and suicide upon arrest, Chen Chien-hsing, the mastermind of the kidnapping, was finally arrested in November after perpetrating [[Alexander family hostage crisis|a hostage incident]], and was subsequently executed.
