Lapwai is located on the floor of a valley carved by Lapwai Creek, roughly 3 miles south of its confluence with the [[Clearwater River (Idaho)|Clearwater River]]. The hills to the east and west of the city rise dramatically more than 600 feet in less than a mile from the city.
