==Geography==
King City is in southeastern Monterey County in the [[Salinas Valley]] at an elevation of {{convert|330|ft|m}} above sea level. It lies between [[Greenfield, California|Greenfield]] {{convert|13|mi}} to the northwest and [[San Lucas, California|San Lucas]] {{convert|9|mi|0}} to the southeast, all of them along [[U.S. Route 101]]. The amount of land area in King City is {{convert|3.8|sqmi}}, of which {{convert|0.1|sqmi|1}}, or 3.36%, are mapped as water.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2022"/> The [[Salinas River (California)|Salinas River]] flows on the west side of the city; due to its sandy bed, portions of the river sometimes flow underground, especially during the summer months.<ref>''The Salinas, Upside-down River'' by Anne B.
