==College career==
Ortiz attended [[Oregon State University]], where he played [[college basketball]] with the [[Oregon State Beavers men's basketball|Oregon State Beavers]], from 1985 to 1987, under the team's head coach [[Ralph Miller]]. At Oregon State, he was a teammate of future [[List of players in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame|Basketball Hall of Fame]] player [[Gary Payton (basketball)|Gary Payton]], during the latter's freshman year.
