===Early life=== Browne was born October 9, 1948, in [[Heidelberg]], Germany, where his father Clyde Jack Browne, an American serviceman, was stationed for his job assignment with the ''[[Stars and Stripes (newspaper)|Stars and Stripes]]'' newspaper.
