Indian Creek was originally incorporated in 1958 as a response to the threat of annexation by neighboring [[Vernon Hills, Illinois|Vernon Hills]]. The incorporation is known as a paper incorporation and was accomplished by attorney Harold P. Block, who became the first Chief of Police of the Village of Indian Creek.

This location may be confused with the Indian Creek Massacre, detailed below, which actually occurred in LaSalle County near Ottawa, IL. During the [[Black Hawk War]] of 1832, which was the last Indian war in Illinois, Indian Creek, was the scene of an attack, by a [[:wikt:renegade|renegade]] band of 40-80 [[Potawatomi]] and [[Sauk people|Sauk]], on the Davis Settlement, where 15 white settlers were killed and scalped.
