As Isseian maritime trade became affected by Illyrian [[Piracy|pirating activities]], they asked for Roman intervention against the [[Illyrian kingdom]], leading to the First Illyrian War in 229. BC and beginning of Roman expansion on the Eastern Adriatic.<ref name=":15" />
