==Geography== According to the [[U.S. Census Bureau]], the county has a total area of {{convert|3260|sqmi}}, of which {{convert|3239|sqmi}} is land and {{convert|21|sqmi}} (0.6%) is water.<ref name="GR1">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/geographies/reference-files/time-series/geo/gazetteer-files.html|publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]|access-date=April 23, 2011|date=February 12, 2011|title=US Gazetteer files: 2010, 2000, and 1990}}</ref> It is the fifth-largest county by area in Colorado. The county seat is [[Gunnison, Colorado]] which is located in a wide valley at the confluence of [[Tomichi Creek]] and [[Gunnison River]]. The county rests in the Gunnison Basin formed by the [[Continental Divide]] to the east, [[Collegiate Peaks Wilderness]] rises in the northeast, [[Maroon BellsβSnowmass Wilderness]] and the [[White River National Forest]] to the north, the [[West Elk Wilderness]] rises in the west of the county with Delta and Montrose Counties on its western slopes.
