==History== Greensburg was laid out in 1822 by Col Thomas Hendricks, a veteran of the [[War of 1812]].<ref>{{Cite book |last=Harding, Lewis Albert |url=https://archive.org/details/historyofdecatur02hard |title=History of Decatur County, Indiana: Its People, Industries and Institutions |publisher=B.F. After the Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and St. Louis Railroad was completed in 1853, the town boomed. Agriculture, foundries, millineries, wholesale grocers, and other businesses took advantage of Greenburg's strategic rail position.<ref name="ACHP">{{Cite web |title=Greensburg, Indiana |url=https://www.achp.gov/preserve-america/community/greensburg-indiana |access-date=22 March 2023 |website=www.achp.gov |publisher=Advisory Council on Historic Preservation}}{{PD-notice}}</ref> ===20th century=== At the beginning of the twentieth century, race relations in Greensburg worsened, leading to the expulsion of African Americans from the city after race riots against them in 1906<ref>Peter M.
