Glen Ridge is located on a ridge on the east side of the First Mountain of the [[Watchung Mountains]]. The town stretches {{convert|2|mi}} from north to south and a maximum of six blocks wide from east to west, and it is only three or two blocks wide in "the Panhandle" north of Bay Avenue.<ref name=NYT1972>McLoughlin, Mary Lou.
