Ellington is located on the eastern edge of Chautauqua County, bordered by [[Cattaraugus County, New York|Cattaraugus County]] to the east. It is northeast of [[Jamestown, New York|Jamestown]], the largest city in Chautauqua County. [[U.S. Route 62 in New York|U.S. Route 62]] passes east-to-south through the town, and [[New York State Route 83]] passes through the northeast of the town parallel to [[Conewango Creek]], a tributary of the [[Allegheny River]].
