===Name===
The municipality (originally the [[prestegjeld|parish]]) is named after the old ''[[Eide, Møre og Romsdal|Eide]]'' farm ({{langx|non|Eið}}) since the first [[Eide Church (Møre og Romsdal)|Eide Church]] was built there. The name comes from the [[dative case]] of the word {{wikt-lang|non|eið}} which means "[[isthmus]]".
