Returning to his native countryside by 1773, Jenner became a successful [[general practitioner|family doctor]] and surgeon, practising on dedicated premises at Berkeley. In 1792, "with twenty years' experience of general practice and surgery, Jenner obtained the degree of MD from the [[University of St Andrews]]".<ref name=Baxbydnb />
