==Geography==
As its name indicates, the city lies in the eastern portion of a lowland area that extends from the [[Ozarks|Ozark Highlands]] to the [[Mississippi River]], covering much of the [[Missouri Bootheel|Bootheel]].<ref>Richard R. [[Missouri Route 105|Route 105]], which intersects Route 80 in East Prairie, connects the city with [[Charleston, Missouri|Charleston]] to the north.
