==Geography==
Dunnellon is located in southwestern Marion County at {{coord|29|3|N|82|27|W|}} (29.0500, –82.4555), {{convert|76|mi|km}} due north of [[Tampa, Florida|Tampa]]. It is bordered to the southwest by the [[Withlacoochee River (Florida)|Withlacoochee River]], which forms the border with [[Citrus County, Florida|Citrus County]]. Dunnellon is bordered to the north by unincorporated [[Rainbow Springs, Florida|Rainbow Springs]].

[[U.S. Route 41]] passes through the city, leading north {{convert|24|mi}} to [[Williston, Florida|Williston]] and south {{convert|18|mi}} to [[Inverness, Florida|Inverness]]. [[Ocala, Florida|Ocala]], the Marion [[county seat]], is {{convert|24|mi}} to the northeast.

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], Dunnellon has a total area of {{convert|9.1|sqmi|km2}}, of which {{convert|8.8|sqmi|km2}} are land and {{convert|0.3|sqmi|km2|1}}, or 3.27%, are water.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2022"/> The Rainbow River joins the Withlacoochee River in Dunnellon, with the combined flow leading west toward the [[Gulf of Mexico]].
