In 1899, F. O. Stanley and his wife Flora drove their ''[[Stanley Steamer]]'' automobile, sometimes called a ''locomobile'', to the summit of [[Mount Washington (New Hampshire)|Mount Washington]] in [[New Hampshire]] in the United States to generate [[publicity]] for their automobile.<ref name=twsZc44>{{cite news | first= Christopher |last=Jensen | title= Taming a Mountain Road With Horses and Cars| newspaper= The New York Times| quote= That was the day that F.
