== Telephone ==
Mobile telephones are vastly more common than fixed line phones in Malawi, with over 6.1 million mobile subscriptions compared with only 45,678 fixed line subscriptions {{as of|2015}}.<ref name="CIA Malawi">{{cite web|title=Africa: Malawi|url=https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/malawi/|website=The World Factbook|publisher=Central Intelligence Agency|access-date=24 March 2017|language=en}}</ref>

A report by the [[International Telecommunication Union]] in 2014 found the average Malawians spend on mobile phones was over 56% of the average monthly earning there.
