=== Climate === Cody experiences a cold semi-arid climate (Köppen BSk), with highly variable conditions. Summers are warm, with some heat spells pushing temperatures above 90. Winters are cold, with frigid periods alternating with sometimes milder temperatures. Relative humidity is usually a fairly dry 30% or less. Precipitation averages 11.5 in annually, including 45.0 in of snow per season. Due to the aridity, snow cover is highly unreliable, with 29.4 days per season with 1 in or more on the ground. Cody enjoys about 300 days of sunshine per year, and is in USDA plant hardiness zone 5a (). Wind is an almost constant presence in the Cody area. Air flow in Cody area is turbulent, but during the winter most storms move in from the north-northwest. During the summer, it is not unusual to see storms move in from the southwest. Throughout a normal day, winds can be experienced as coming from almost any direction, mostly from the north and west, but sometimes from the south and east. The Canyon at the west end of Cody funnels rain and wind across the city from the west. The winds can be quite strong at 30 to and last for several days. Because of the dry climate, the entire area is laced with irrigation canals, holding ponds, laterals, and drops. The Buffalo Bill Dam between Rattlesnake and Cedar mountains forms a large reservoir about 10 mi to the west of Cody. This reservoir (among others) feeds the Shoshone Project, a large irrigation water distribution system. The monthly daily average temperature ranges from in December to in July. An average of 16.2 days have highs of 90 or higher and an average of 12.3 days have lows of 0 or lower; the average window for freezing temperatures is September 30 through May 10 and for measurable (≥0.1 in snow, October 21 through April 21. The record high temperature was 105 F on July 14, 1925, and July 15, 1951, and the record low temperature was on February 8, 1936. The wettest calendar year has been 2014 with 16.59 in and the driest 1956 with 3.58 in. The most rainfall in one month was 5.76 in in June 1992. The most rainfall in 24 hours was 2.51 in on July 22, 1973. There are an average of 72.3 days with measurable precipitation. The most snow in one year was 73.4 in between July 1916 and June 1917. The most snow in one month was 29.0 in in February 2014. {{Weather box |location = Cody, Wyoming, 1991–2020 normals, extremes 1915–present |single line = Yes |collapsed = Y |Jan record high F = 68 |Feb record high F = 75 |Mar record high F = 79 |Apr record high F = 87 |May record high F = 94 |Jun record high F = 103 |Jul record high F = 105 |Aug record high F = 103 |Sep record high F = 97 |Oct record high F = 87 |Nov record high F = 74 |Dec record high F = 67 |Jan avg record high F = 56.2 |Feb avg record high F = 56.5 |Mar avg record high F = 66.4 |Apr avg record high F = 75.3 |May avg record high F = 81.6 |Jun avg record high F = 89.8 |Jul avg record high F = 94.9 |Aug avg record high F = 93.2 |Sep avg record high F = 88.4 |Oct avg record high F = 78.0 |Nov avg record high F = 64.3 |Dec avg record high F = 55.4 |year avg record high F = 95.6 |Jan high F = 37.5 |Feb high F = 38.7 |Mar high F = 48.7 |Apr high F = 55.3 |May high F = 64.4 |Jun high F = 74.8 |Jul high F = 84.0 |Aug high F = 82.2 |Sep high F = 72.3 |Oct high F = 58.0 |Nov high F = 44.8 |Dec high F = 36.5 |year high F = |Jan mean F = 27.5 |Feb mean F = 28.6 |Mar mean F = 37.7 |Apr mean F = 44.2 |May mean F = 53.1 |Jun mean F = 62.4 |Jul mean F = 70.6 |Aug mean F = 68.9 |Sep mean F = 59.7 |Oct mean F = 46.9 |Nov mean F = 35.2 |Dec mean F = 27.3 |year mean F = |Jan low F = 17.5 |Feb low F = 18.5 |Mar low F = 26.8 |Apr low F = 33.0 |May low F = 41.9 |Jun low F = 50.0 |Jul low F = 57.3 |Aug low F = 55.6 |Sep low F = 47.2 |Oct low F = 35.9 |Nov low F = 25.5 |Dec low F = 18.0 |year low F = |Jan avg record low F = -8.6 |Feb avg record low F = -3.2 |Mar avg record low F = 5.6 |Apr avg record low F = 17.6 |May avg record low F = 28.0 |Jun avg record low F = 38.1 |Jul avg record low F = 47.5 |Aug avg record low F = 43.3 |Sep avg record low F = 31.8 |Oct avg record low F = 16.5 |Nov avg record low F = 2.1 |Dec avg record low F = -5.7 |year avg record low F = -16.0 |Jan record low F = -40 |Feb record low F = -46 |Mar record low F = -23 |Apr record low F = -18 |May record low F = 15 |Jun record low F = 25 |Jul record low F = 33 |Aug record low F = 29 |Sep record low F = 9 |Oct record low F = -11 |Nov record low F = -24 |Dec record low F = -35 |precipitation colour = green |Jan precipitation inch = 0.37 |Feb precipitation inch = 0.46 |Mar precipitation inch = 0.55 |Apr precipitation inch = 1.35 |May precipitation inch = 2.18 |Jun precipitation inch = 1.62 |Jul precipitation inch = 0.89 |Aug precipitation inch = 0.90 |Sep precipitation inch = 1.15 |Oct precipitation inch = 0.99 |Nov precipitation inch = 0.59 |Dec precipitation inch = 0.46 |year precipitation inch = |Jan snow inch = 7.3 |Feb snow inch = 7.5 |Mar snow inch = 5.8 |Apr snow inch = 5.9 |May snow inch = 0.8 |Jun snow inch = 0.0 |Jul snow inch = 0.0 |Aug snow inch = 0.0 |Sep snow inch = 0.4 |Oct snow inch = 3.4 |Nov snow inch = 6.4 |Dec snow inch = 7.5 |year snow inch = 45.0 |unit precipitation days = 0.01 in |Jan precipitation days = 3.2 |Feb precipitation days = 4.0 |Mar precipitation days = 4.8 |Apr precipitation days = 7.7 |May precipitation days = 10.4 |Jun precipitation days = 9.1 |Jul precipitation days = 6.8 |Aug precipitation days = 7.1 |Sep precipitation days = 5.8 |Oct precipitation days = 5.7 |Nov precipitation days = 4.0 |Dec precipitation days = 3.7 |unit snow days = 0.1 in |Jan snow days = 2.7 |Feb snow days = 3.3 |Mar snow days = 2.7 |Apr snow days = 2.3 |May snow days = 0.2 |Jun snow days = 0.0 |Jul snow days = 0.0 |Aug snow days = 0.0 |Sep snow days = 0.2 |Oct snow days = 1.3 |Nov snow days = 2.6 |Dec snow days = 3.2 |source 1 = NOAA |source 2 = National Weather Service }}
