==Geography== According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.2 sqmi, of which 3.1 sqmi is land and 0.1 sqmi (4.00%) is water. The city is situated along the western bank of the Tennessee River, at river mile 410. This section of the river is part of Guntersville Lake, which is created by Guntersville Dam about 60 miles downstream from Bridgeport. The Cumberland Plateau rises prominently to the northwest, and the plateau's southern extension, Sand Mountain, rises across the river to the east. U.S. Route 72 connects Bridgeport with South Pittsburg across the Tennessee state line to the north, and Stevenson to the southwest. Russell Cave National Monument is located close to Bridgeport. ===Climate=== The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Bridgeport has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps. {{Weather box | width = auto | collapsed = | single line = yes | location = Russell Cave National Monument (5 miles northwest of Bridgepoint) (1991–2020 normals, extremes 1955–present) | Jan record high F = 76 | Feb record high F = 81 | Mar record high F = 86 | Apr record high F = 91 | May record high F = 97 | Jun record high F = 100 | Jul record high F = 102 | Aug record high F = 105 | Sep record high F = 102 | Oct record high F = 97 | Nov record high F = 88 | Dec record high F = 77 | year record high F = | Jan high F = 48.4 | Feb high F = 53.0 | Mar high F = 62.1 | Apr high F = 71.3 | May high F = 78.2 | Jun high F = 84.8 | Jul high F = 87.7 | Aug high F = 87.2 | Sep high F = 82.1 | Oct high F = 71.6 | Nov high F = 60.2 | Dec high F = 51.3 | year high F = 69.8 | Jan mean F = 38.8 | Feb mean F = 42.6 | Mar mean F = 50.4 | Apr mean F = 58.7 | May mean F = 67.0 | Jun mean F = 74.2 | Jul mean F = 77.6 | Aug mean F = 76.8 | Sep mean F = 71.2 | Oct mean F = 59.7 | Nov mean F = 49.0 | Dec mean F = 41.5 | year mean F = 59.0 | Jan low F = 29.1 | Feb low F = 32.2 | Mar low F = 38.7 | Apr low F = 46.0 | May low F = 55.7 | Jun low F = 63.6 | Jul low F = 67.5 | Aug low F = 66.4 | Sep low F = 60.3 | Oct low F = 47.8 | Nov low F = 37.7 | Dec low F = 31.7 | year low F = 48.1 | Jan record low F = -13 | Feb record low F = -4 | Mar record low F = 9 | Apr record low F = 22 | May record low F = 23 | Jun record low F = 38 | Jul record low F = 49 | Aug record low F = 46 | Sep record low F = 32 | Oct record low F = 21 | Nov record low F = 10 | Dec record low F = -6 | year record low F = | precipitation colour = green | Jan precipitation inch = 5.64 | Feb precipitation inch = 5.66 | Mar precipitation inch = 5.72 | Apr precipitation inch = 5.74 | May precipitation inch = 4.16 | Jun precipitation inch = 4.75 | Jul precipitation inch = 5.42 | Aug precipitation inch = 4.01 | Sep precipitation inch = 4.43 | Oct precipitation inch = 3.63 | Nov precipitation inch = 4.90 | Dec precipitation inch = 6.18 | year precipitation inch = 60.24 | unit precipitation days = 0.01 in | source = NOAA }}
