==Geography==
Boaz is located in southeastern Marshall County at {{coord|34|12|10|N|86|9|38|W|type:city}} (34.202793, −86.160457)<ref name="GR1">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/geographies/reference-files/time-series/geo/gazetteer-files.html|publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]|access-date=April 23, 2011|date=February 12, 2011|title=US Gazetteer files: 2010, 2000, and 1990}}</ref> and extends south into Etowah County. The city sits atop [[Sand Mountain (Alabama)|Sand Mountain]] (a plateau) at {{convert|1080|ft}} above sea level. It is bordered to the north by [[Albertville, Alabama|Albertville]] and to the southeast by [[Sardis City, Alabama|Sardis City]]. [[U.S. Route 431]] passes through the east side of the city, leading north {{convert|16|mi|}} to [[Guntersville, Alabama|Guntersville]] and south {{convert|20|mi}} to [[Gadsden, Alabama|Gadsden]].

According to the [[U.S. Census Bureau]], the city of Boaz has a total area of {{convert|14.6|sqmi}}, of which {{convert|0.06|sqmi|2}}, or 0.43%, are water.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2021"/> Most of the city drains west to either Slab Creek or Clear Creek, tributaries of the [[Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River]]. The [[Tennessee Valley Divide]] crosses the east side of the city, with the eastern portions of the city draining to Short Creek, a north-flowing tributary of the [[Tennessee River]].
