Baconton is located in northern Mitchell County at {{coord|31|22|34|N|84|9|41|W|type:city}} (31.376002, -84.161468).<ref name="GR1">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/geographies/reference-files/time-series/geo/gazetteer-files.html|publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]|accessdate=2011-04-23|date=2011-02-12|title=US Gazetteer files: 2010, 2000, and 1990}}</ref> [[U.S. Route 19]] runs along the eastern border of the city, leading south {{convert|10|mi}} to [[Camilla, Georgia|Camilla]], the [[county seat]], and north {{convert|16|mi}} to [[Albany, Georgia|Albany]].

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], Baconton has a total area of {{convert|2.0|sqmi|km2}}, all land.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2022"/> The [[Flint River]] passes {{convert|1|mi}} to the west of the city.

Soils of Baconton are mostly well drained or somewhat excessively drained. They have grayish brown loamy sand topsoils overlying yellowish brown or red sandy clay loam subsoils. All belong to the [[Ultisol]] soil order. Where agricultural or urban development have not occurred, these soils support mixed forests dominated by [[pine]]s and [[oak]]s.
