==Geography== Anaktuvuk Pass is slightly north of the Brooks Range on the divide between the Anaktuvuk River and the John River, at an elevation of 2200 ft. Anaktuvuk Pass is the last remaining settlement of the Nunamiut (People of the Land) Iñupiat Inuit in Alaska. The community lies at approximately . It is in Section 18, Township 15 South, Range 2 East, Umiat Meridian, within the Utqiaġvik Recording District. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has an area of 4.9 sqmi, of which 4.8 sqmi is land and 0.1 sqmi (1.63%) is water. ===Climate=== Anaktuvuk Pass has a typical subarctic climate (Köppen climate classification: Dfc) bordering on a tundra climate (Köppen climate classification: ET), with the average temperature in January -13.4 while the warmest month, July, averages 50.3 F. Temperatures have ranged from . Anaktuvuk Pass receives about 11 in of rain yearly, with snowfall averaging about 63 in. The area is known for its intense winds and 50-below winters and the generic, framed houses built there in the 1970s. The houses are inefficient for such a climate, according to a Fairbanks Daily News Miner story. On June 28, 1971, the temperature fell to a record summer low of -11, though the data for that year is extremely sparse. The climate record as a whole is irregular, with data compiled only between 1953 and 1973, with most observations in the 1950s. {{Weather box |location = Anaktuvuk Pass (1953–1973) |single line = Y |Jan record high F = 34 |Feb record high F = 29 |Mar record high F = 37 |Apr record high F = 46 |May record high F = 63 |Jun record high F = 81 |Jul record high F = 91 |Aug record high F = 75 |Sep record high F = 63 |Oct record high F = 48 |Nov record high F = 37 |Dec record high F = 28 |year record high F = 91 |Jan high F = -4.0 |Feb high F = -6.5 |Mar high F = 1.7 |Apr high F = 17.0 |May high F = 39.5 |Jun high F = 57.1 |Jul high F = 60.4 |Aug high F = 53.0 |Sep high F = 39.5 |Oct high F = 15.1 |Nov high F = 0.3 |Dec high F = -7.5 |year high F = 22.1 |Jan mean F = -11.6 |Feb mean F = -13.4 |Mar mean F = -6.4 |Apr mean F = 7.5 |May mean F = 30.0 |Jun mean F = 46.6 |Jul mean F = 50.3 |Aug mean F = 44.1 |Sep mean F = 32.4 |Oct mean F = 8.8 |Nov mean F = -7.2 |Dec mean F = -14.2 |year mean F = 13.9 |Jan low F = -19.2 |Feb low F = -20.2 |Mar low F = -14.5 |Apr low F = -2.0 |May low F = 20.5 |Jun low F = 36.1 |Jul low F = 40.1 |Aug low F = 35.3 |Sep low F = 24.7 |Oct low F = 2.7 |Nov low F = -14.7 |Dec low F = -21.0 |year low F = 5.6 |Jan record low F = −45 |Feb record low F = −47 |Mar record low F = −40 |Apr record low F = −38 |May record low F = −12 |Jun record low F = −11 |Jul record low F = 8 |Aug record low F = 14 |Sep record low F = -2 |Oct record low F = −24 |Nov record low F = −40 |Dec record low F = −45 |year record low F = −47 |precipitation colour = green |Jan precipitation inch = 0.32 |Feb precipitation inch = 0.29 |Mar precipitation inch = 0.51 |Apr precipitation inch = 0.58 |May precipitation inch = 0.51 |Jun precipitation inch = 1.47 |Jul precipitation inch = 1.77 |Aug precipitation inch = 1.52 |Sep precipitation inch = 1.01 |Oct precipitation inch = 0.77 |Nov precipitation inch = 0.49 |Dec precipitation inch = 0.49 |year precipitation inch = 9.75 |Jan snow inch = 6.4 |Feb snow inch = 4.2 |Mar snow inch = 7.5 |Apr snow inch = 6.6 |May snow inch = 2.8 |Jun snow inch = 0.2 |Jul snow inch = 0 |Aug snow inch = 0.3 |Sep snow inch = 6.6 |Oct snow inch = 10.8 |Nov snow inch = 5.8 |Dec snow inch = 6.5 |year snow inch = 57.7 |source 1 = DRI }}
