==Geography== Alpine sits on both sides of Interstate 8 at the eastern extent of the California coastal region and the western extent of the Peninsular Ranges, about 30 mi east of downtown San Diego, at an elevation of about 2000 ft. The location of Alpine is not precisely defined since it is an unincorporated area. According to the United States Geological Survey, it is at (32.8350521, -116.7664109), which is near the intersection of Alpine Boulevard and Tavern Road. That is approximately where most maps place Alpine. Kumeyaay tribes are indigenous to the area, and the Ewiiaapaayp Band and Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians both have headquarters in Alpine. According to the United States Census Bureau, it is at (32.834563, -116.770615), which is approximately 1200 ft west of the USGS location. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 26.8 sqmi, 99.99% land and 0.01% water. Viejas Mountain is the highest peak in the area, at 4,189 ft. Wright's Field is a nature reserve located in Alpine. ===Climate=== According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Alpine has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated "Csa" on climate maps. Summers are warm and dry, and winters are cool with moderate precipitation. Temperatures are more extreme than coastal San Diego, similar to nearby El Cajon and Ramona, and less extreme than the nearby mountain and desert regions, such as Julian. Rainfall averages 16.05 in per year, falling mostly from November to March, with numerous microclimates and annual variation. Rainfall amounts can vary greatly from month to month, or from year to year. Average January temperatures range from the low 60s in the day to the low 40s at night. Average July temperatures range from upper 80s to the low 90s in the day to the low 60s at night. Highs of over 105 F in the summer and lows of under 35 F in the winter are occasional, particularly in the northern section of Alpine, on the slopes of Viejas Mountain. Snowfall is very rare within the town of Alpine, with trace amounts falling once out of every two to three winters. However, light snow commonly falls each winter at elevations above 3,000 ft. {{Weather box |location = Alpine, California (1991–2020 normals, extremes 1951–present) |single line = Y |Jan record high F = 89 |Feb record high F = 90 |Mar record high F = 95 |Apr record high F = 103 |May record high F = 104 |Jun record high F = 109 |Jul record high F = 112 |Aug record high F = 108 |Sep record high F = 113 |Oct record high F = 103 |Nov record high F = 96 |Dec record high F = 90 | Jan avg record high F = 79.3 | Feb avg record high F = 79.9 | Mar avg record high F = 83.0 | Apr avg record high F = 87.8 | May avg record high F = 90.4 | Jun avg record high F = 94.8 | Jul avg record high F = 98.4 | Aug avg record high F = 99.7 | Sep avg record high F = 100.4 | Oct avg record high F = 94.3 | Nov avg record high F = 86.9 | Dec avg record high F = 77.5 | year avg record high F = 103.1 | Jan high F =63.9 | Feb high F =64.2 | Mar high F =67.2 | Apr high F =70.7 | May high F =74.4 | Jun high F =81.2 | Jul high F =86.7 | Aug high F =88.9 | Sep high F =85.9 | Oct high F =78.3 | Nov high F =70.6 | Dec high F =63.1 | year high F =74.6 |Jan mean F = 53.2 |Feb mean F = 53.3 |Mar mean F = 55.8 |Apr mean F = 58.8 |May mean F = 62.6 |Jun mean F = 67.8 |Jul mean F = 73.4 |Aug mean F = 75.5 |Sep mean F = 73.1 |Oct mean F = 66.2 |Nov mean F = 59.1 |Dec mean F = 52.3 |year mean F = | Jan low F =42.5 | Feb low F =42.3 | Mar low F =44.4 | Apr low F =46.9 | May low F =50.8 | Jun low F =54.3 | Jul low F =60.2 | Aug low F =62.2 | Sep low F =60.3 | Oct low F =54.0 | Nov low F =47.6 | Dec low F =41.5 | year low F =50.6 | Jan avg record low F = 33.9 | Feb avg record low F = 34.4 | Mar avg record low F = 36.2 | Apr avg record low F = 39.0 | May avg record low F = 44.1 | Jun avg record low F = 47.9 | Jul avg record low F = 51.9 | Aug avg record low F = 53.2 | Sep avg record low F = 50.3 | Oct avg record low F = 45.5 | Nov avg record low F = 37.9 | Dec avg record low F = 33.2 | year avg record low F = 29.8 |Jan record low F = 19 |Feb record low F = 20 |Mar record low F = 27 |Apr record low F = 30 |May record low F = 36 |Jun record low F = 39 |Jul record low F = 40 |Aug record low F = 40 |Sep record low F = 38 |Oct record low F = 30 |Nov record low F = 28 |Dec record low F = 22 | precipitation colour = green | Jan precipitation inch =3.21 | Feb precipitation inch =3.65 | Mar precipitation inch =2.73 | Apr precipitation inch =1.18 | May precipitation inch =0.57 | Jun precipitation inch =0.13 | Jul precipitation inch =0.10 | Aug precipitation inch =0.12 | Sep precipitation inch =0.25 | Oct precipitation inch =0.59 | Nov precipitation inch =1.48 | Dec precipitation inch =2.04 | year precipitation inch =16.05 |Jan precipitation days = 5.9 |Feb precipitation days = 8.0 |Mar precipitation days = 5.8 |Apr precipitation days = 4.3 |May precipitation days = 2.8 |Jun precipitation days = 0.7 |Jul precipitation days = 0.9 |Aug precipitation days = 0.7 |Sep precipitation days = 1.0 |Oct precipitation days = 2.4 |Nov precipitation days = 4.1 |Dec precipitation days = 6.1 |unit precipitation days = 0.01 inch | Jan snow inch =0.0 | Feb snow inch =0.0 | Mar snow inch =0.0 | Apr snow inch =0.1 | May snow inch =0.0 | Jun snow inch =0.0 | Jul snow inch =0.0 | Aug snow inch =0.0 | Sep snow inch =0.0 | Oct snow inch =0.0 | Nov snow inch =0.0 | Dec snow inch =0.0 | year snow inch = |Jan snow days = 0.0 |Feb snow days = 0.0 |Mar snow days = 0.0 |Apr snow days = 0.1 |May snow days = 0.0 |Jun snow days = 0.0 |Jul snow days = 0.0 |Aug snow days = 0.0 |Sep snow days = 0.0 |Oct snow days = 0.0 |Nov snow days = 0.0 |Dec snow days = 0.0 |year snow days = |source 1 = NOAA }}
