At least eight separate oil companies are known to have been contributors in the early 80s. Only three donors are given by name: the Allied Educational Foundation (founded and chaired by [[George Barasch]]), [[Shelby Cullom Davis]], and billionaire [[Richard Mellon Scaife]].
