Willard was formed in 1881 to serve the public, regardless of race, a progressive mission in the latter half of the nineteenth century. The library houses local archives and genealogical materials, in addition to its collection of standard publications. The building is constructed in the [[Gothic Revival architecture|Gothic Revival style]] and was listed on the [[National Register of Historic Places]] in 1972.
