Steve Ditko's artwork is considered groundbreaking in comic book history, featuring surreal and psychedelic imagery that mirrored the growing counterculture movement of the 1960s.  His visual style, with its otherworldly dimensions and abstract landscapes, was highly innovative.  It has been compared to the visual experiences of people who had used LSD.
