* Cairo had its own minor-league baseball team (variously known as the [[Cairo Egyptians|Egyptians]], Champions, Giants and [[Cairo Dodgers|Dodgers]]) in the [[Kentucky–Illinois–Tennessee League]] in 1903–06, 1911–14, 1922–24 and 1946–50.

* The town of Cairo is known for its love of basketball. In 2017, the Cairo Pilots high school basketball team came close to their first state championship, finishing 23–6 for the season.
