Christianity has the largest religious following in York; 43.9 per cent of residents reported as Christian at the 2021 census. York has multiple churches, most of which are medieval. It is the [[Province of York|northern province]]'s administrative centre, home to the [[Archbishop of York]] and the province's [[Mother Church]] ([[York Minster]]). [[St William's College]] behind the Minster, and [[Bedern|Bedern Hall]], off [[Goodramgate]], are former dwelling places of the [[Canon (priest)|canons]] of the York Minster. York, in the [[Roman Catholic Diocese of Middlesbrough]], has eight churches and a number of different Catholic religious orders.
