==== African-American schools ==== In the era of [[Jim Crow laws]] and legalized racial segregation of schools, before the mid-20th century [[Civil Rights Movement]], white and black students attended separate schools. Beginning around 1868 the Upper Marlboro area had a school for African-American children.
