She went by Ann not Anna Mae once she was a teenager. --> (whom he later renamed Tina Turner) at the Club Manhattan in East St. Louis.{{Sfn|Turner|1986|p=60}}<ref name="Greensmith-2015" /> They became close friends and she began dating his saxophonist [[Raymond Hill (musician)|Raymond Hill]]. Tina retained songwriter royalties from songs she had written, but Ike got the publishing royalties for his compositions and hers. She said: "It was my relationship with Ike that made me most unhappy. At first, I had really been in love with him. Look what he'd done for me. But he was totally unpredictable."{{Sfn|Turner|1986|p=91}} Turner admitted he took Tina for granted and called her "the best woman I ever knew".<ref name="Jet-9/23/91" /> In his autobiography, he said: "Sure, I've slapped Tina. We had fights and there have been times when I punched her to the ground without thinking.
