Gudrun plays a passive role in the poem.{{sfn|McKinnell|2014|p=257}} She is shown to wake up in a pool of blood from the dying Sigurd, who then makes a short speech to her blaming Brunhild, predicting the murder of their son, assuring her that he has not slept with Brunhild, and noting that he brothers still live. After this, she disappears from the poem and is only mentioned by Brunhild.{{sfn|McKinnell|2014|p=257}}
