In 1975, [[Leonard Matlovich]], while serving in the [[United States Air Force]], came out to challenge the US military's policies banning service by homosexuals. In 2011, as the US prepared to lift restrictions on service by openly gay people, Senior Airman [[Randy Phillips (airman)|Randy Phillips]] conducted a social media campaign to garner support for coming out.
