Brasília has two universities, three university centers, and many private colleges.

The main tertiary educational institutions are: [[Universidade de Brasília]] – University of Brasília (UnB) (public); [[Universidade Católica de Brasília]] – Catholic University of Brasília; [[Centro Universitário de Brasília]] (UniCEUB); Centro Universitário Euroamaricano (Unieuro); {{Interlanguage link|Centro Universitário do Distrito Federal|pt}}; {{Interlanguage link|Universidade Paulista|pt}}; and Instituto de Educação Superior de Brasília.

There is an extreme concentration of higher education institutions in the Plano Piloto. In 2006, a new campus of the [[University of Brasília|University of Brasilia]] was set up in Planaltina. There are also UnB campuses in the administrative regions of Ceilândia and Gama. The number of libraries is not proportional to the size of the population in the central area.
