===Activity in 1970===
On June 9, 1970, a bomb made with ten sticks of dynamite exploded in the [[240 Centre Street]] headquarters of the New York City Police Department. On July 23, 1970, a Detroit federal grand jury indicted 13 Weathermen members in a national bombing conspiracy, along with several unnamed co-conspirators. In September 1970, the group accepted a $20,000 payment from the largest international [[Psychedelic drugs|psychedelic drug]] distribution organization, called [[The Brotherhood of Eternal Love]], to break [[LSD]] advocate [[Timothy Leary]] out of a California prison in [[San Luis Obispo, California|San Luis Obispo]], north of [[Santa Barbara, California]],<ref name="The Weather Underground"/> and transport him and his wife to [[Algeria]], where Leary joined [[Eldridge Cleaver]].
