The [[Thessaloniki railway station]] is located on Monastiriou street. Other extended and densely built-up residential areas are [[Charilaou]] and [[Toumba (Thessaloniki)|Toumba]], which is divided into "Ano Toumpa" and "Kato Toumpa". Toumba was named after the homonymous hill of Toumba, where extensive archaeological research takes place. It was created by refugees after the 1922 Asia Minor disaster and the population exchange (1923–24).
