==Personal life==
Conquest was married four times, first in 1942 to Joan Watkins, with whom he had two sons. In 1962 he married Caroleen MacFarlane; they divorced in 1978.<ref name=Telegraphobit/> That year he began dating Elizabeth Neece Wingate, a lecturer in English and the daughter of a [[United States Air Force]] colonel. He and Wingate married in 1979.
