For the United States, he established several new dioceses in 1808 for [[Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston|Boston]], [[Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York|New York City]], [[Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia|Philadelphia]] and [[Roman Catholic Diocese of Bardstown|Bardstown]]. In 1821, he also established the dioceses of [[Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston|Charleston]], [[Roman Catholic Diocese of Richmond|Richmond]] and [[Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati|Cincinnati]].
