The south is drier and dominated by savanna-like brush, including [[cacti]], [[Copaifera langsdorffii|Copaiba balsam]], [[logwood]] and [[acacia]]. [[Anole]] lizards and [[Bothrops lanceolatus|fer-de-lance snakes]] are native to the island.
