[[John Williams]], a frequent composer of Spielberg's films,{{sfn|Shay & Duncan|1993|p=59}} began scoring ''Jurassic Park'' at the end of February 1993, and it was recorded a month later. [[Alexander Courage]] and John Neufeld provided the score's [[orchestrations]].{{sfn|Shay & Duncan|1993|p=144–6}} As with the Spielberg film ''[[Close Encounters of the Third Kind]]'', Williams felt he needed to write "pieces that would convey a sense of 'awe' and fascination", given that the film dealt with the "overwhelming happiness and excitement" of seeing live dinosaurs.
