==Marriage and family==
Thorpe married three times and had a total of eight children. In 1913, Thorpe married Iva M. Miller,<ref name="NYTobit" /> whom he had met at Carlisle. In 1926, Thorpe married Freeda Verona Kirkpatrick (September 19, 1905 – March 2, 2007). Lastly, Thorpe married Patricia Gladys Askew on June 2, 1945.<ref name="NYTobit" /> She was with him when he died.{{Sfn|Buford|2012|p=366}}
